<aside> <img src="/icons/flag-pennant_red.svg" alt="/icons/flag-pennant_red.svg" width="40px" /> Welcome to the team! Our mission is to…
One of the first things that comes to mind when one hears “North Korea” may include - the rocket man, nuclear weapons, Kim Jung-eun’s ruthless regime, starvation, poverty and whatever else may have popped into your mind while reading this sentence. However, one of our many goals is to change this very narrative about North Korea.
The world’s perception of North Korea strays far away from optimistic ideas, one that is hopeless, powerless, and unchanging due to the influence of the North Korean government and mass media. With the change of perspective, however, we hope to bring forth the untold stories of refugees, providing a platform to those who can articulate their personal narratives, one that represents more than simply a stereotypical idea one may have of the North Korean state. North Korea is home to 25 million people. Citizens just like us.
As members of LiNK, we hope to spread awareness and promote the ideas we stand for - liberating the oppressed, refugee rescue missions, empowerment, advocation, and changing the narrative. Because our student club represents a global non-profit organization, we have the opportunity to be involved in providing direct aid in rescuing North Korean refugees. The organization has already rescued 1310 people and are constantly supporting those in need even after liberating them. Therefore, as our second mission, we hope to contribute to this endeavor ourselves through fundraising. Along with our upcoming future events such as holding festivals, forums, events, and general body meetings, we will be promoting financial contributions as a direct way to help the North Korean refugees.
