As of right now (Sep 2023), our student club has been de-recognized by the University Student Life due to zero communication records from previous semester. I'm assuming no one knew or did not inform us regarding this matter. However, the good news is we can still be active and continue to do our promotion/activity for our organization and there is a recognition process during Spring semester.
<Letter from Vice-Chair of SGB>
Group recognition process takes place in the Spring semester. After we review your application, you will come in and meet with our board to present your group to us. This includes going over your mission, explaining how it fits in with the mission of the SGB, and discussing the activity and stability of your group. Following that meeting we will decide to recommend you for recognition or not recommend you. From there, you will present your group at our Town Hall and the leaders of all of our recognized groups will vote on your status. If we have recommended you, you need 1/3 of their votes to become recognized. If we have chosen to not recommend you, you will need 2/3 of their votes to become recognized.
When considering to recommend or not recommend groups, we look at two main areas. The first is if you fit under the purview of the SGB. We oversee groups that are political, religious, activist, humanitarian, or identity conscious in nature. The second thing we look at is sustainability. This means a few things. 1- have you been active for two semesters? 2- do you have at least 10 committed members and can you show proof of this with a sign-in sheet for a meeting or a photograph of a meeting (specifically resulting from a normal group event)? 3- do you have an even distribution of class years and an even distribution of students from all four undergraduate colleges? If you meet these requirements, we will likely recommend you. If we are concerned about any of these areas, then we may choose to not recommend you, but you can still advocate for your recognition and be voted in at the Town Hall.
